England Ready for New Zealand with Fresh Additions to the Squad

England head coach Steve Borthwick has strategically adjusted his squad for the opening match of the Autumn Nations Series against New Zealand this Saturday. He has called up Northampton lock Alex Coles and Bath back-row forward Ted Hill. Borthwick selected Hill after his standout performance as the player of the match in Bath’s recent Premiership victory over Sale while Coles has consistently impressed for the Saints.

In addition to these new faces, Borthwick has included Sale fly-half George Ford in the main squad after Ford recovered from a quad injury sustained in early October. Initially listed as undergoing rehabilitation, Ford’s return adds depth to the team’s playmaking options. However, Borthwick has also seen some withdrawals from his squad.

Leicester forward Ollie Chessum will miss the match as he awaits evaluation for a knee injury he suffered during the game against Saracens. Charlie Ewels will also sit out as he follows return-to-play protocols after Bath’s match at The Rec. Furthermore, Borthwick dropped Sale wing Tom Roebuck from the 36-player squad that will prepare for the All Blacks.

This upcoming match marks the beginning of a challenging series for England, who will face New Zealand as part of four fixtures this autumn. After the encounter with the All Blacks, England will compete against Australia, South Africa and Japan at Allianz Stadium in November.

With a mix of experienced players and promising newcomers, Borthwick aims to maximize England’s potential in this highly competitive series setting the stage for a rigorous test of skill and resilience.
