Halifax Panthers Appoint Kyle Eastmond as New Coach

Halifax Panthers have named Kyle Eastmond as their new head coach, signing him to a three-year contract. This marks Eastmond’s first head coaching role after a successful playing career in both rugby league and rugby union. The 35-year-old replaces Liam Finn, who departed from the Shay Stadium following a ninth-place finish in the Championship last season.

Eastmond expressed his excitement about joining such a prominent rugby league club, stating, “Being at such a great rugby league club like Halifax, you can’t help but be excited about that.” Eastmond earned four caps for England in rugby league during his five seasons with St Helens before transitioning to rugby union with Bath in 2011 where he received six caps and scored one try.

Although he played under Stuart Lancaster, he did not make the 2015 World Cup squad. He went on to represent Wasps and Leicester Tigers before returning to league, finishing his playing career with Leeds Rhinos in 2021. Since retiring, Eastmond has accumulated coaching experience in both codes. He has had spells with Rotherham and Jersey Reds in rugby union and most recently, he worked with Warrington Wolves in rugby league.

Halifax Panthers aim to leverage his diverse experience to enhance their team’s performance. Halifax’s chief executive, Damian Clayton highlighted Eastmond’s unique background, stating, “As a dual-code international with England, Kyle brings with him a winning mentality developed under some of the best in the business.” The Panthers are optimistic that Eastmond’s leadership and expertise will steer the team towards success in the upcoming season.
