Pierre Schoeman Signs Contract Extension with Edinburgh
Pierre Schoeman has committed to a new contract with Edinburgh, extending his stay at the club until 2028. The 30-year-old loose-head prop, who joined Edinburgh in 2018 has made over 100 appearances for the capital club. Since making his debut for Scotland in 2021, Schoeman has firmly established himself in Gregor Townsend’s squad, earning 37 caps. His impressive form has led to speculation that he will be called up to the British & Irish Lions for their 2024 tour.
Schoeman, who qualified to play for Scotland on residency grounds, expressed his excitement at continuing his journey with Edinburgh. Despite receiving interest from other clubs, Schoeman and his wife, Charissa have made Scotland their home and he was eager to extend his stay. “It was an easy decision to re-sign with a club that means so much to me,” said Pierre Schoeman. “We have unfinished business here, and there is so much talent in the squad. I feel at home and couldn’t be happier to stay.”
Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt praised Schoeman’s commitment, describing the retention of the “fan favourite” as “brilliant news.” Everitt highlighted Schoeman’s development into a world-class prop and his influence on younger players at the club. “Pierre gives 100% every day and is fully committed to improving himself and those around him,” Everitt added.
Schoeman joins fellow Scotland international Duhan van der Merwe in committing to new deals at Edinburgh, ensuring that the club retains key players amidst interest from abroad. This announcement marks a significant boost for Edinburgh with both Schoeman and van der Merwe contributing to the club’s future success.
