Rugby World Cup 2025: England Aims for Glory

Rugby World Cup 2025 has taken shape as England’s quest for a potential home victory finds the hosts in a pool with Australia, the USA and Samoa for next summer’s tournament. Notably, the Red Roses currently the top-ranked team and riding a 20-match winning streak are strong favorites to surpass their performance from the 2022 tournament in New Zealand.

If they win their pool, they could face world number twos Canada or defending champions New Zealand in the final. Meanwhile, Ireland fresh off a significant upset against New Zealand in WXV will compete in a challenging pool with the Black Ferns, Japan and Spain. Additionally, England may encounter the runners-up from Pool B which includes Scotland, Wales, Canada and Fiji in the quarter-finals.

Their most likely opponents in the semi-finals are France, who share the top seed status with England, Canada and New Zealand. The tournament kicks off on Friday, August 22 at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light culminating in the final at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium on September 27. In the previous tournament, hosted by England in 2010, New Zealand defeated England in the final a pattern that has repeated in five of the last six World Cups.

Following that loss, former All Blacks coach John Mitchell replaced Simon Middleton and has since implemented a more dynamic playing style. Furthermore, the Rugby World Cup 2025 has expanded to 16 teams including first-time participants Brazil. The Rugby Football Union aims to fill Twickenham for the final aiming to break the record attendance for a women’s rugby match, currently held at 58,498.

Matches will be held across eight venues in England with ticket sales starting on November 5.
