Saracens Secure Bonus-Point Win Against Northampton
Saracens dominated Northampton Saints 38-20 in a commanding Premiership victory at StoneX Stadium, running in six tries. Fly-half Fergus Burke scored two tries with Rhys Carre and Theo Dan also adding to the scoreline, giving Saracens a 24-0 lead at halftime. The home side controlled the game, despite having to shuffle their lineup due to an injury to full-back Elliot Daly in the warm-up.
Northampton briefly threatened a comeback in the second half with tries from Tommy Freeman and Tom Pearson cutting the deficit. However, Saracens responded with scores from substitute Jamie George and Ben Earl, ensuring a bonus-point victory and moving them up to third in the table. Northampton managed to secure a late bonus point with tries from Ollie Sleightholme and Archie McParland but they remain eighth with 15 points from eight games.
Saracens, who had been dominant in the first half, struggled to maintain their intensity in the second with some individual mistakes costing them. Captain Maro Itoje’s yellow card further disrupted their momentum but they regained composure and finished strongly, despite the wind creating difficulties for both teams. Saracens’ director of rugby, Mark McCall, praised his team’s first-half performance, calling it one of their best in a long time.
He acknowledged the need for more consistency in the second half especially against a team like Northampton. Saints’ director of rugby, Phil Dowson expressed frustration with his team’s poor first-half showing although he was pleased with their second-half effort, despite it being “too little, too late.”
