Steve Borthwick Unveils England’s Summer Tour Training Squad

Steve Borthwick the head coach has unveiled the preliminary 19-player training squad for the upcoming summer tour which will feature matches against Japan and New Zealand. The squad includes seven uncapped players, including Greg Fisilau from Exeter Chiefs, adding a fresh dimension to the team. Experienced props Dan Cole and Joe Marler will join the team later, missing the initial camp starting on June 4th.  However, injuries have ruled out Ollie Chessum and Ellis Genge from contention.

Notably, the training squad excludes players involved in the Premiership semi-finals on May 31st and June 1st, as clubs like Northampton Saints, Saracens, Bath and Sale Sharks prepare for playoff action. England’s fixtures comprise matches against Japan on June 22nd and New Zealand on July 6th and 13th, marking the team’s return to action since their third-place finish in the Six Nations earlier this year. The selected squad showcases promising talents from various clubs, emphasizing England’s commitment to nurturing young talent.

Forwards such as Fin Baxter and Chandler Cunningham-South from Harlequins, along with backline talents like Immanuel Feyi-Waboso from Exeter Chiefs, highlight the squad’s depth and diversity. This squad announcement led by head coach Steve Borthwick sets the stage for an exciting summer tour as England aims to build momentum and challenge formidable opponents on the international stage.
