Tom Curry Returns to England Squad After Surgery Recovery

Tom Curry promptly rejoined the England training squad after recovering from hip surgery following the Rugby World Cup, despite featuring for only 34 minutes in Sale’s Premiership semi-final defeat to Bath. The 25-year-old joined his twin brother Ben Curry in the 33-player squad. Newcastle back row Guy Pepper, who is slated to join Bath next season, is the only player excluded from the previous week’s squad. The upcoming four-day camp at Pennyhill Park starting Tuesday will exclude players from Northampton or Bath.  Both teams will be competing in the Premiership final on Saturday.

Nonetheless, they will be eligible for selection the following week, increasing competition for spots. However, Saracens fullback Elliot Daly will miss England’s summer tour due to the impending birth of his first child. The official England squad for the summer series in Japan and New Zealand will be announced on Monday, June 10. This announcement will follow the Premiership final on June 8. Steve Borthwick’s squad will first face Eddie Jones’ Japan in Tokyo on June 22. Subsequently, they will play Tests against the All Blacks in Dunedin (July 6) and Auckland (July 13).

The England training squad consists of forwards and backs from various rugby clubs. Notable forwards include Tom Curry and Maro Itoje from Sale Sharks and Saracens respectively while standout backs include George Ford from Sale Sharks and Henry Slade from Exeter Chiefs.
