Wigan Warriors made history by becoming the first team in the Super League era to win all four major trophies in a single season after defeating Hull KR in a tightly contested Grand Final at Old Trafford. Under coach Matt Peet, Wigan secured the World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup, League Leaders’ Shield and Grand Final in 2024, mirroring the achievement of their 1994 squad.

The match began cautiously and Hull KR had a potential score disallowed due to a knock-on in the build-up. Wigan seized the opportunity as Bevan French scored a spectacular try just past halfway. Harry Smith added a drop-goal just before halftime to extend their lead. Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis managed to score a penalty but Wigan’s Adam Keighran secured the victory with another successful kick.

Wigan’s defensive efforts in the second half proved pivotal especially when Ryan Hall stopped Hull KR’s Jake Wardle inches from the try line with a brilliant tackle. The Cherry and Whites’ disciplined play throughout the match proved crucial, allowing them to clinch their fourth trophy of 2024, an achievement not seen in the past 25 years. Since taking over in 2022, Peet has led Wigan to seven trophies in under 100 games.

His success has ended St Helens’ recent dominance in the league. French earned the man of the match title and received the inaugural Rob Burrow Award, honoring the late rugby legend. Although Hull KR fell short, coach Willie Peters expressed optimism about his team’s potential to challenge the Super League’s traditional powerhouses in the future.
