Judd Trump Cruises to Last 16 at English Open

Judd Trump advanced to the last 16 of the English Open with a decisive 4-1 victory over Matthew Selt in Brentwood. Selt, who struggled to make a pot until the third frame, fell short as Trump a two-time winner of the event controlled the match effortlessly. Judd Trump will face Fan Zhengyi next, who secured his spot in the next round with a 4-2 win over Oliver Lines.

Second seed Kyren Wilson also progressed comfortably, defeating Anthony McGill 4-1. He will next compete against Barry Hawkins, who delivered a dominant 4-0 performance against Xu Si. Mark Selby showed impressive form with a 4-0 win over Joe O’Connor, highlighted by a break of 137 in the second frame. Selby will face China’s Si Jiahui, who narrowly edged out Jiang Jun 4-3.

In a surprising turn, Luca Brecel’s underwhelming season continued as he suffered a 4-3 defeat to Pang Junxu. The Belgian was unable to replicate the form that earned him the world championship title last year. John Higgins, Ross Muir and He Guoqiang all recorded 4-1 victories. Higgins overcame David Gilbert, Muir defeated Jamie Jones and He Guoqiang won against Stephen Maguire.

Mark Allen progressed with a 4-2 win over Lyu Haotian and will face Higgins in the next round. Neil Robertson also advanced after a 4-1 win against Shaun Murphy, setting up a clash with Muir. Overall, the tournament has seen a mix of strong performances and surprising upsets as players vie for the title.
