Luke Littler the 17-year-old teenage sensation will face Fallon Sherrock in the PDC World Championship if Sherrock defeats Ryan Meikle in the first round. Littler the fourth seed reached the world final in January but lost to Luke Humphries while Sherrock made history five years ago as the first woman to win matches at the tournament. The PDC World Championship begins on December 15 at London’s Alexandra Palace. Humphries the defending champion will face either Thibault Tricole or Joe Comito in the first round.
Michael Smith the 2023 world champion and second seed will play either Kevin Doets or Noa-Lynn van Leuven the first transgender woman to qualify for the tournament. Three-time champion Michael van Gerwen is set to meet the winner of James Hurrell and Jim Long while 2017 and 2019 world champion Peter Wright will face Wesley Plaisier or Ryusei Azemoto.
Fellow Scotsman Gary Anderson a two-time champion will play against Jeffrey de Graaf or Rashad Sweeting. Nick Kenny and Stowe Buntz will also meet in the first round for the chance to face Raymond van Barneveld in round two. Other key matchups include Rob Cross facing Scott Williams or Niko Springer and Gerwyn Price meeting Kim Huybrechts or Keane Barry.
If the seeds advance, potential third-round matchups include Humphries vs. Van Barneveld and Van Gerwen vs. Anderson. Luke Littler and Humphries could face each other in the semi-finals with Littler reflecting on a stunning first year as a professional having won 10 titles. “It’s been crazy,” he said, noting the friendly rivalry with Humphries, who recently won their latest Players Championship encounter.
