Mark Selby a two-time UK Championship winner, suffered a first-round exit in the 2024 event as Jack Lisowski staged an incredible fightback to win 6-4 at York Barbican. Selby dominated the early stages, compiling two centuries and building a commanding 3-0 lead, conceding only six points in three frames. However, Lisowski rallied with breaks of 55, 63, 100, 70 and 61 to win six of the next seven frames. The world number 21 now faces Ali Carter in the last 16.
Reflecting on his defeat, Mark Selby admitted missing a chance to lead 4-0 was pivotal. “That was the turning point,” Selby said. “Jack played well, and when his mindset is right, he’s capable of beating anyone.” Lisowski credited York’s supportive crowd for his performance. “The atmosphere here is incredible,” he said. “I played risky snooker, and it paid off.”
Allen Battles Past Page in Frustrating Win
Former champion Mark Allen overcame a tough challenge from Jackson Page, winning 6-4 in an error-strewn match. Allen ranked third in the world, struggled throughout making only one break over 50. “I’m not in a good place with my game,” Allen admitted.
Despite leading 4-3, Page couldn’t close the match, allowing Allen to use his experience to secure victory. Allen, who faces either Si Jiahui or Wu Yize next, remains frustrated with his form. “I’m doing all the right things in practice, but it’s not translating on the table,” he said.
Carter and Wu Yize Advance
Ali Carter edged past Ryan Day 6-4 to reach the second round for the first time since 2012. Meanwhile, Wu Yize defeated fellow Chinese player Si Jiahui by the same score to progress into the next stage.
