Mark Williams and Judd Trump Set for Saudi Masters Final
Mark Williams and Judd Trump will compete in the final of the inaugural Saudi Arabia Masters on Saturday. Williams from Wales secured his place by defeating China’s Si Jiahui 6-3 in their semi-final. Jiahui, who had previously eliminated Ronnie O’Sullivan, initially led with a break of 116 but struggled as Williams took charge, winning four consecutive frames.
Despite a strong comeback from Jiahui, including a break of 136, Williams closed out the match by winning the final frame. In the other semi-final, England’s Judd Trump advanced by narrowly edging Shaun Murphy 6-5 in a dramatic decider. Trump, the world number one, established a 3-0 lead with breaks of 67 and 72. Murphy fought back, leveling the match at 5-5 after breaks of 78 and 60.
The final frame came down to a tense battle where Trump clinched victory with a decisive pot on the brown ball leaving Murphy needing two snookers. Murphy, who had been hoping to secure a win, lamented the outcome noting Trump’s exceptional potting skills.
Judd Trump’s win marks his 46th ranking event final and sets up a high-stakes showdown with Mark Williams. The final will be the most lucrative snooker match outside the World Championship, with a £500,000 prize for the victor. Both players are looking to capitalize on their form and secure a prestigious win in this landmark event.
