Ronnie O’Sullivan Overcomes Zhang in Saudi Masters Thriller

Ronnie O’Sullivan, despite a gritty comeback from a 3-0 deficit, won 6-5 against Zhang Anda to advance to the quarter-finals of the inaugural Saudi Arabia Masters. The seven-time world champion expressed dissatisfaction with his current form, stating, “The way I’ve been playing, it’s no fun for me.” He emphasized his desire to perform consistently well over several matches.

Zhang Anda seemed poised for victory as he led 3-0 but Ronnie O’Sullivan fought back, leveling the score at 3-3. Zhang regained the lead with a 4-3 advantage but O’Sullivan’s experience ultimately saw him through to win the match. O’Sullivan’s comments highlight his frustration with his performance, even as he progresses in the tournament.

In other matches, world number one Judd Trump defeated Jack Lisowski 6-1 to set up a quarter-final clash with Neil Robertson, who also won 6-1 against Gary Wilson. Robertson, reflecting on his recent form, declared, “I’m a better player than I ever have been,” noting a renewed sense of pride in his safety game after a challenging 2023-24 season.

Shaun Murphy overcame Elliot Slessor 6-3 while Scott Donaldson lost a close match 6-5 to Xiao Guodong. Jimmy Robertson edged out Kyren Wilson 6-4 and will face Mark Williams in the quarter-finals after defeating Stuart Bingham 6-2.

The Saudi Arabia Masters, hailed as snooker’s ‘fourth major,’ boasts a £2.3 million prize fund with a £500,000 winner’s cheque, making it one of the most significant tournaments outside the UK.
