Duncan Scott Triumphs in 200m Freestyle, Secures Two Titles

Duncan Scott of Great Britain triumphed over France’s Leon Marchand in the men’s 200m freestyle on the final day of the short course World Cup in Singapore. The 27-year-old Scott, who had previously secured a silver in the 200m medley behind Marchand claimed his second title of the event after setting a British record in the men’s 400m freestyle.

Scott won the 200m freestyle with a time of 1:39.83, finishing 1.08 seconds ahead of Marchand while China’s Pan Zhanle took third place. With these impressive results, Scott moved up to third in the overall standings for the series. Despite Scott’s defeat in the 200m medley, Marchand’s performance throughout the competition earned him enough points to be crowned the overall champion.

The 22-year-old French swimmer had a standout summer, winning four gold medals at the Paris Olympics. Switzerland’s Noe Ponti finished second in the overall rankings after concluding the championships with a victory in the men’s 50m butterfly. In the women’s category, America’s Kate Douglass, 22 secured the overall title after winning the 100m freestyle in the final event.

Her compatriot Regan Smith finished second overall, thanks to her win in the women’s 200m backstroke which she completed in a new world record time of 1:58.83. Smith also broke her own world record earlier in the meet with her victory in the 100m backstroke. Overall, the short course World Cup showcased remarkable performances with Duncan Scott and Kate Douglass highlighting the event’s competitive spirit and athletic excellence.
