Emma McKeon Retires After Stellar Olympic Career

Emma McKeon, Australia’s most decorated Olympian has announced her retirement from competitive swimming at the age of 30. The iconic swimmer earned an astonishing 14 Olympic medals including six golds across three Games, solidifying her status as one of the sport’s greats. In a heartfelt Instagram post, McKeon confirmed her decision to retire, reflecting on her journey and achievements. “Leading into Paris, I knew it would be my last Olympics,” she shared.

“I’m proud of myself for giving my swimming career everything, both physically and mentally. I wanted to see what I was capable of – and I did.” McKeon debuted at the Rio 2016 Olympics where she secured three relay medals and a bronze in the 200m freestyle. She rose to global prominence at Tokyo 2020, winning four golds and a record-setting seven-medal haul.

Her achievements broke the Australian record of nine Olympic medals previously held by Ian Thorpe and Leisel Jones. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, McKeon added three more medals to her tally, ending her career with 14 Olympic honors.
