Alexander Zverev Clinches Seventh ATP 1000 Title in Paris

Alexander Zverev secured his first Paris Masters title with a convincing straight-set victory over home favourite Ugo Humbert, winning 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday. This triumph marks Zverev’s seventh ATP 1000 title and elevates him to the world number two spot, surpassing Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings. Both players reached their fourth final of the year with Zverev having previously lost to Alcaraz in the French Open final.

Humbert, who reached his first Masters final after stunning Alcaraz in the round of 16, became the first French finalist at this indoor event in 13 years. Reflecting on his journey, the 26-year-old Humbert expressed his joy at reaching the final, recalling his childhood visits to the tournament that inspired his tennis career. During the match, Humbert showcased his skills with a brilliant forehand passing shot to hold serve in the opening game.

However, Zverev quickly took control, breaking Humbert’s serve twice to establish a 4-1 lead before securing the first set with only four unforced errors compared to Humbert’s 17. In the second set, a double fault from Humbert allowed Zverev to break again and the German continued to dominate with his powerful serve and groundstrokes.

Humbert struggled to gain traction, winning just five points on return while Zverev comfortably served out the match. With this victory, Alexander Zverev now boasts 66 wins for the year, surpassing world number one Jannik Sinner for the most victories in 2023. He will next compete in the ATP Finals in Turin from November 10-17, aiming to win the prestigious season-ending title for the third time.

In the doubles final, British duo Lloyd Glasspool and Adam Pavlasek narrowly lost to the sixth seeds Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic, who claimed their fifth title of the season with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.
