Andy Murray’s first grass-court match of the season ended in defeat as he lost to American Marcos Giron at the Stuttgart Open. Competing in his 999th singles match, Murray fell 6-3 6-4 in the opening round. The three-time Grand Slam champion, Andy Murray, aged 37, is gearing up for what could potentially be his last Wimbledon tournament. He has expressed that he doesn’t intend to continue playing extensively beyond the summer, hinting at retirement plans. Despite his loss, Murray feels physically fine, especially since transitioning to grass courts.

Giron, ranked 54th globally, capitalized on Murray’s missed opportunities, securing the opening set and maintaining control throughout the match. Murray, reflecting on his struggles to break serve, emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities, especially on quick surfaces like grass. Giron advances to face British sixth seed Jack Draper in the second round. Murray aims to participate in the Cinch Championships at Queen’s next week as part of his Wimbledon preparations.

Additionally, he plans to team up with his brother Jamie for the men’s doubles at Wimbledon, marking their first Grand Slam appearance together. Jamie Murray previously highlighted the significance of this partnership, describing it as “now or never” for the brothers. Wimbledon is scheduled to begin on July 1st.
