Aryna Sabalenka sent a powerful message to her competitors by demolishing Zheng Qinwen 6-1, 6-2 to secure a spot in the US Open semi-finals. The world number two’s dominant performance came after American Emma Navarro staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Spain’s Paula Badosa 6-2, 7-5. Sabalenka, who reached the final last year but lost to Coco Gauff, is in top form and a strong contender for the title.

Her win over Zheng was decisive, as she hit 16 winners compared to Zheng’s nine and saved the only break point she faced. Sabalenka’s impressive forehand and aggressive play overwhelmed Zheng, highlighting her readiness for the semi-final clash against Navarro. Navarro, who had only won one Grand Slam match before this year has seen a remarkable rise in her performance.

She has progressed from the third round at the Australian Open, the last 16 at the French Open and the quarter-finals at Wimbledon to reach the US Open semi-finals. In her quarter-final match, Navarro overcame Badosa despite facing a 5-1 deficit in the second set. Navarro’s tenacity and ability to recover under pressure showcased her growth and potential.

In contrast, Badosa, who had been aiming for her first Grand Slam semi-final, struggled with her game especially after leading 5-1 in the second set. Her performance faltered, leading to a collapse that Navarro capitalized on to secure her victory. Sabalenka’s upcoming semi-final against Navarro promises to be a highly anticipated match.

Aryna Sabalenka jokingly offered to buy drinks for the crowd if they supported her, highlighting her confidence and readiness for the challenge ahead.
