Aryna Sabalenka the world number one is excited to begin the new tennis season, feeling “fresh and ready to go” as she aims to build on a standout 2024. The Belarusian had a remarkable year, defending her Australian Open title in January and clinching her third Grand Slam singles title at the US Open in September. Sabalenka also took over from Iga Swiatek at the top of the world rankings, finishing the year as world number one.
Sabalenka will start her 2025 campaign at the Brisbane International which begins on December 29. Reflecting on her progress, she acknowledged areas for improvement. “There are many things to improve,” said Aryna Sabalenka, highlighting her net game and touch play in singles as key focus areas. She also expressed a desire to refine her serve to reach an even higher level of performance.
In 2024, Sabalenka reached the final in Brisbane but suffered a heavy loss to Elena Rybakina. However, she went on to defend her Australian Open title without losing a set. Looking ahead to 2025, she will aim to become the first woman since Martina Hingis in 1999 to win three consecutive singles titles in Melbourne.
Sabalenka emphasized the importance of the preseason for fine-tuning her game, noting that the Brisbane tournament will be a key opportunity to test out new strategies. With a wealth of great memories from the tournament, Sabalenka is eager to begin her season and continue her impressive rise.
