Barbora Krejcikova criticized Tennis Channel analyst Jon Wertheim for making “unprofessional commentary” about her appearance during a live broadcast at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Wertheim remarked on the Czech world number 13’s forehead which Krejcikova addressed on social media, expressing disappointment over the focus on her appearance instead of her performance.

The 28-year-old, who lost in the semi-finals to eventual runner-up Zheng Qinwen, emphasized the need for professionalism and respect in sports media. She pointed out that such comments distract from the true spirit of sports and the hard work athletes put into their craft. Krejcikova added that while she had often chosen not to speak up in similar situations, she felt it was time to address the issue publicly.

Wertheim later apologized for his comment, explaining that he made it during a rehearsal which inadvertently aired live. He admitted to joking about the angle of a camera that exaggerated Krejcikova’s forehead but acknowledged that the remark was “deeply regrettable” and unprofessional. He took full responsibility for his actions and personally apologized to Krejcikova.

Tennis Channel acted swiftly by removing Wertheim from the broadcast “indefinitely” and apologizing to Barbora Krejcikova. The network stated that it holds its employees to a high standard of respect and professionalism which Wertheim failed to meet in this instance. Wertheim a long-time analyst for Tennis Channel has contributed significantly to the sport’s coverage but faced consequences for his inappropriate comment.

The network reaffirmed its commitment to supporting athletes and maintaining respectful commentary in all its broadcasts.
