Carlos Alcaraz, defending champion, expresses his excitement about returning to Wimbledon, describing it as “more special” as he prepares to kick off the tournament on Centre Court. Carlos Alcaraz, aged 21, faces Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal in his first match at 13:30 BST, aiming to replicate last year’s success after winning his third major title at the French Open.

Emma Raducanu, representing Britain, returns to Wimbledon after missing last year due to injury. She competes against Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second match on Centre Court at approximately 16:00 BST. Raducanu, ranked 135th in the world and granted a wildcard, anticipates a tough challenge but sees it as an opportunity to perform well and enjoy the game.

Meanwhile, US Open champion Coco Gauff plays her match against fellow American Caroline Dolehide as the third scheduled singles match on Centre Court. Raducanu is among seven British singles players in action on the tournament’s opening day.

Wildcard Charles Broom makes his Wimbledon debut against three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka on Court Two around 14:00 BST, expressing excitement and readiness for the challenge. Other British wildcards in action include Heather Watson, Liam Broady, Arthur Fery, Lily Miyazaki and qualifier Sonay Kartal.

Overall, Wimbledon’s opening day promises thrilling matches and opportunities for both defending champions and up-and-coming players to shine on the prestigious courts.
