Carlos Alcaraz to Face Sinner in China Open Final

Carlos Alcaraz has advanced to the China Open final where he will face Jannik Sinner after a comfortable straight-sets victory over Daniil Medvedev. The Spanish world number three secured a 7-5, 6-3 win in just 88 minutes as Medvedev struggled with a left leg injury that required two medical timeouts. This marks Alcaraz’s eighth consecutive win since his unexpected second-round loss at the US Open to Botic van de Zandschulp.

World number one Jannik Sinner also secured his place in the final, defeating Chinese wildcard Bu Yunchaokete 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Sinner, who is defending his title in Beijing is dealing with an ongoing doping controversy after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced it is appealing a decision that cleared him of fault in two positive tests for a banned substance.

Sinner’s defense claims the contamination was accidental caused by his physiotherapist. Despite the uncertainty, Sinner has maintained strong form with this win marking his 15th consecutive victory. The final will be the 10th meeting between Sinner and Alcaraz, with Alcaraz holding a slight edge, leading their head-to-head 5-4. They last met in June at the French Open semi-final where Carlos Alcaraz won a five-set thriller.

Sinner acknowledged the upcoming match will be difficult but expressed confidence, saying, “We know each other very well but every match is different.” In other tennis news, Britain’s Dan Evans defeated Alex Bolt 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 to qualify for the Shanghai Masters. Evans will face Brazil’s Thiago Seyboth Wild in the first round.

Meanwhile, compatriot Billy Harris secured a first-round spot as a lucky loser and will play Italy’s Mattia Bellucci. Jack Draper withdrew from the tournament due to an abdominal injury.
