Emma Raducanu has partnered with renowned fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura known for his work with Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka as she aims to overcome the injuries that have hampered her progress since her 2021 US Open triumph. Nakamura will work with Raducanu “pretty much most weeks” throughout the year, offering a consistent presence to enhance her physical development. Raducanu, 22, trialed Nakamura earlier this autumn and felt it was the right time to bring a dedicated fitness expert into her team.

“I think he’s going to help me explore how far I can go athletically,” Raducanu shared. “My natural athleticism is a big strength but it’s still raw and underdeveloped. With his guidance, I believe I can become one of the best athletes in tennis.” The fitness coach has already begun training with Raducanu and her coach Nick Cavaday at the National Tennis Centre in London. Their focus is on refining her athletic abilities and maximizing her potential for the challenges of the upcoming season.

Raducanu plans to fly to Brisbane next week for warm-weather training ahead of her new campaign. After spending Christmas in New Zealand, she will compete at the ASB Classic in Auckland at the end of December. Raducanu also aims to participate in the Adelaide International before taking on the Australian Open which begins on 12 January.

This partnership marks a pivotal step in Emma Raducanu’s efforts to build a more robust foundation for her career. With Nakamura’s expertise, she hopes to minimize injuries and unlock her athletic potential, setting the stage for a stronger and more consistent season.
