Emma Raducanu advanced to the quarter-finals of the Korea Open by defeating China’s Yue Yuan in straight sets. The 21-year-old former US Open champion took control early in the match, winning six consecutive games to secure the first set and maintain dominance in the second. Ultimately, Raducanu clinched the victory with a score of 6-4, 6-3 after converting her seventh match point marking her progression to the last eight in Seoul.
In the quarter-finals, Raducanu will face top seed Daria Kasatkina, who defeated American Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-2 in her own match. Raducanu acknowledged the challenge ahead, noting that the courts suit Kasatkina’s game due to their high bounce. However, she emphasized the importance of competing against high-level opponents for her own confidence and growth, stating, “It’s a match where I don’t really have anything to lose.”
During the match against Yue, ranked 40th in the world, Emma Raducanu faced an early setback but quickly regained momentum breaking her opponent’s serve in the ninth game to clinch the first set. She continued her strong performance in the second set, jumping to a 3-0 lead with a double break. Although Yue fought back to close the gap to 3-2, Raducanu held firm saving a crucial break point to maintain her advantage.
Despite facing challenges as she attempted to serve out the match, Raducanu persevered, eventually sealing her hard-fought victory on Yue’s serve. This match highlighted Raducanu’s resilience and determination as she prepares for the next stage of the tournament.
