Emma Raducanu faced a challenging but promising comeback year after missing most of 2023 due to wrist and ankle surgeries. At 22, she started 2024 ranked 303rd but by the end of the year, the 2021 US Open champion had climbed back into the top 60. This impressive rise, achieved with just 14 ranking events has been outdone by only a few players in 2024 and is a remarkable feat for Raducanu. Her highlights included a strong grass season with quarter-final appearances in Nottingham and a semi-final in Eastbourne, culminating in a solid run at Wimbledon where she reached the last 16.

She also performed well at the Korea Open, where she reached her fourth quarter-final of the year.  Despite setbacks including a tough US Open exit and a foot injury that ended her season early, Raducanu demonstrated resilience helping Britain reach the BJK Cup semi-finals and earning £11 million in prize money. However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. She faced criticism after a poor performance in Madrid and her first-round exit at the US Open served as a wake-up call leading to an emotional realization about her challenges.

Emma Raducanu’s fitness and mental toughness underwent tests under intense scrutiny but her friends and rivals, like British number three Sonay Kartal praised her ability to bounce back. For 2025, Raducanu plans to focus on improving her fitness and serve with new trainer Yutaka Nakamura joining her team. She aims to make her athleticism a key strength and hopes to continue her upward trajectory. With her renewed focus and solid support team, Raducanu looks forward to making 2025 her best year yet.
