Emma Raducanu made a successful return from injury with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Germany’s Jule Niemeier in the Billie Jean King Cup in Malaga. Playing her first match in nearly two months due to a foot injury, Raducanu showed promising form in the opening match of Britain’s tie against Germany. She sealed the win on her sixth match point after a nervy finish, stating, “I’m very pleased to have scored that point.”

Raducanu, sidelined after wrist and ankle injuries last year had not played since September but remained physically and emotionally calm on her comeback. Later, British number one Katie Boulter secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Laura Siegemund, guaranteeing Britain’s place in the quarter-finals without needing a deciding doubles match.

Boulter fresh off a strong run in Asia, helped Britain progress to the next round where they will face defending champions Canada on Sunday. Emma Raducanu’s win marked her return after an extended break due to injury. Although rustiness showed in the early stages against Niemeier, Raducanu’s serving particularly in key moments proved effective.

She struggled to close out the match, missing several match points but regained focus to seal the win. Boulter ranked just behind Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini, strengthened Britain’s lineup with her win showcasing the depth of talent available to captain Anne Keothavong. Both players’ strong performances highlight Britain’s potential in the competition with their eyes now on advancing further in the tournament.
