Gabriela Dabrowski: Battling Cancer, Breaking Barriers.

Gabriela Dabrowski, a Canadian tennis star and three-time major champion ranked world number three in doubles has revealed she underwent breast cancer treatment earlier this year while competing at the sport’s highest level. Diagnosed in April, the 32-year-old shared her journey in an Instagram post, calling it a “privilege” to identify as a survivor.

Following two surgeries and a three-month break from the WTA Tour, Dabrowski made a triumphant return by winning the Nottingham grass-court title with partner Erin Routliffe of New Zealand. Remarkably, just weeks later, the duo reached the Wimbledon final, ultimately losing to Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.

Determined to compete in the All England Club and represent Canada at the Paris Olympics, Dabrowski postponed additional treatment until afterward. She then underwent radiation therapy before the US Open in late August where she and Routliffe reached the quarterfinals despite the fatigue from her treatment. She also began hormone therapy during this period.

Dabrowski capped her challenging season with a career highlight, winning the WTA Finals title with Routliffe. Reflecting on her journey, she described the past months as surreal and credited her cancer diagnosis with inspiring a deeper appreciation for life and her achievements. Sharing her story to encourage other women undergoing similar challenges, Gabriela Dabrowski said, “If you saw me smiling more on court in the past six months, it was genuine.

When the threat of losing everything I’d worked for became real, I began to authentically appreciate what I had.” Her resilience and determination amid adversity have made her an inspiration, both as a tennis champion and as a cancer survivor.
