Germany Ends Canada’s Run, to Face Netherlands in Semis

Germany secured a spot in the Davis Cup semi-finals after a 2-0 victory over Canada in Malaga despite missing their top player, world number two Alexander Zverev. The German team’s strong performance meant they didn’t need to rely on the doubles match to clinch the tie. Daniel Altmaier started the winning run, defeating Gabriel Diallo in straight sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Jan-Lennard Struff then sealed the victory with a hard-fought win against Denis Shapovalov coming back from a set down to triumph 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). Germany three-time Davis Cup champions, last lifted the trophy in 1993 and now face the Netherlands in the semi-finals. The Netherlands advanced by defeating Spain, marking a historic end to Rafael Nadal’s playing career during the tie.

The Dutch team displayed remarkable form to overcome the hosts and secure their place in the next round. In other Davis Cup action, Italy will take on Argentina, and the United States will face Australia for the remaining semi-final spots. These matches will determine the full lineup for the final four as the tournament moves closer to its climax.

Germany’s success highlights their depth as they managed to overcome Canada without Zverev, showcasing resilience and strong team spirit. The upcoming clash with the Netherlands promises to be an intense battle with both teams seeking a place in the final.
