Jack Draper Claims Erste Bank Open Title, Rises to No. 15

Jack Draper claimed the biggest title of his career at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, further elevating his breakout season as the British number one. The 22-year-old left-hander showcased remarkable skill to defeat Russia’s Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-5 in the final of the ATP 500 event. Following this victory, Draper will achieve a career-high ranking of 15th in the world on Monday.

Expressing his pride, Draper said, “To win this title feels incredible. I’m so proud of myself and my team – the hard work is for moments like this.” However, the match presented challenges. Draper lost a 4-0 lead in the second set as Khachanov rallied to go up 5-4. Despite the setback, Draper demonstrated resilience, breaking back to serve for the match.

He faced two break points in the crucial 12th game but ultimately secured victory when Khachanov sent a lob wide on championship point, collapsing in joy on the court. This title marks Jack Draper’s second tour-level victory as he previously won an ATP 250 event in Stuttgart earlier this season. Just a year ago, he ranked just inside the top 100 while recovering from a shoulder injury.

Draper’s fitness and strength have played pivotal roles in his success this season making him one of the standout players in British men’s tennis. Draper’s high first-serve percentage significantly contributed to his dominance against Khachanov especially in the first set where he won 18 of 19 first serves. His win places him among an elite group of British players who have secured an ATP 500 title including Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans.

Earlier in the day, Jamie Murray also enjoyed success by winning the doubles title at the Swiss Indoors in Basel while Neal Skupski fell short in the doubles final in Vienna.
