Jack Draper Prioritizes Recovery, Cancels Alcaraz Training Session

Jack Draper has canceled his planned training week with Carlos Alcaraz due to a “little bit of a niggle” in his hip. The British number one had planned to travel to Spain to train with Wimbledon champion Alcaraz next week. However, he now limits his activity to gym work while managing the injury. Draper, who will compete for Great Britain in the United Cup starting December 27, is uncertain about his participation as he focuses on recovery.

The Australian Open starts on January 12. Draper explained that he was excited for the training session with Alcaraz. However, he decided to cancel because he didn’t want to risk training while not being fully fit. He emphasized that it would not be fair to Alcaraz if he weren’t 100% ready for such intense training. Draper had eagerly anticipated the opportunity to train with one of the best players in the world to prepare for the new season.

The 22-year-old clarified that this hip issue differs from the one that troubled him at the start of 2023. Despite the setback, Draper has made significant progress, rising to world No. 15 after winning ATP titles in Stuttgart and Vienna. He has also demonstrated improved resilience against injury this year. Draper spoke about his involvement with the Alzheimer’s Society while attending a Memory Walk event in west London.

As an ambassador for the charity, Jack Draper shared how his family has been affected by Alzheimer’s. He particularly spoke about his grandfather’s experience caring for his grandmother. Draper praised his grandfather for his care and dedication, calling him an “absolute hero” for his unwavering support.
