Jack Draper, the British number one is aiming to be “more aggressive” as he prepares to face Botic van de Zandschulp in the third round of the US Open on Saturday. The 22-year-old, seeded 25th will compete against the Dutchman, who caused a major upset by defeating top seed Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. The match will take place on the Grandstand at Flushing Meadows with Draper looking to capitalize on the open draw and progress to the fourth round.
Draper has reflected on his recent narrow losses and is focused on improving his aggression during key moments. He noted, “I need to do it myself, and I need to play aggressively,” especially after experiencing several tight defeats earlier this year. If Jack Draper advances, he could potentially face fellow Brit Dan Evans, who will play against 10th seed Alex de Minaur in the night session on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Evans, who recently played the longest match in US Open history is looking to maintain his perfect record against De Minaur, having won all three of their previous encounters. On Day 6 of the tournament, two-time US Open champion Iga Swiatek will headline the evening session on Arthur Ashe Stadium facing Russian 25th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Following this, Daniil Medvedev the men’s fifth seed and last year’s runner-up, will compete against Italy’s Flavio Cobolli. Earlier, American sixth seed Jessica Pegula will take on Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and top seed Jannik Sinner will face Australia’s Christopher O’Connell. In the men’s doubles, Britain’s Joe Salisbury and American Rajeev Ram will play against Lloyd Glasspool and Rinky Hijikata.
Additionally, four other Britons will be in action across men’s, women’s and mixed doubles on Saturday.
