Jack Draper the British tennis star will miss the first event of the 2025 season due to a hip injury but remains optimistic about his Australian Open participation. The 22-year-old had to cancel a training camp with Carlos Alcaraz in Spain after experiencing a “little bit of a niggle” in his hip. Draper has been advised not to play for Great Britain in the United Cup which begins against Argentina in Sydney on December 30 and will also sit out the Davis Cup tie in Japan in late January.

In a message posted on social media, Draper confirmed he would not compete in the United Cup, focusing on recovering from his injury. He expressed disappointment at missing the event as he had been excited about playing for the first time but remained positive about his chances for the Australian Open starting January 12 in Melbourne. Draper acknowledged that he wouldn’t immediately jump into a full schedule as he must manage his recovery and strengthen his hip.

The 2024 season was a breakthrough year for Jack Draper, who rose to number 15 in the world following ATP title wins in Stuttgart and Vienna and a semi-final appearance at the US Open. He plans to spend Christmas in the UK before heading to Melbourne at the end of the month but will not compete in any lead-up events to the Australian Open. Draper also confirmed he would miss the Davis Cup tie in Japan giving him more time for rehabilitation.

This opens the door for 23-year-old Jacob Fearnley currently ranked 99th to potentially make his Davis Cup debut. Cameron Norrie ranked 49th could also return to the squad after missing the September event.
