Jannik Sinner defeated American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 to move closer to the ATP Tour Finals semifinals. Earlier, Daniil Medvedev bounced back from his opening loss with a dominant 6-2, 6-4 win over Alex de Minaur in the Ilie Nastase Group. Medvedev, visibly frustrated in his previous match was much calmer and focused, losing only nine points on serve. His victory came in 78 minutes and he displayed superb ball striking including a stunning cross-court winner to break De Minaur in the third game of the match.
In doubles, Britain’s Henry Patten and Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara reached the semifinals with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 win over Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson, repeating their Wimbledon final result. They are aiming to become the first team since 2018 to win both Wimbledon and the ATP Finals in the same season.
Meanwhile, Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz’s participation in the event is uncertain after he cut short a practice session due to chest discomfort. Alcaraz, who lost his first match to Casper Ruud is scheduled to play Andrey Rublev next. His coach Juan Carlos Ferrero indicated that while he may still play, Alcaraz is unlikely to be at 100%.
