Jannik Sinner Withdraws from Paris Masters Due to Virus

Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Paris Masters due to a virus, he announced on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Italian star, who recently claimed the $6 million title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz at the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia on October 20 expressed his disappointment in a video message shared by the tournament organizers. Sinner stated, “I’m very disappointed to tell you that I am not able to play here at this tournament. I came here very early to prepare, but then I felt sick.”

He revealed that he is currently suffering from a virus, but he expects to recover in two to three days. However, he confirmed that he does not feel physically ready to compete. “I am very sorry for that. I will see you guys (in Paris) next year. Hopefully, it will be a great year. And this year – without me. Hopefully, I’ll see you next year,” he added. Following Sinner’s withdrawal, Frenchman Arthur Cazaux has taken his place in the tournament draw.

Sinner’s absence is significant especially as the Paris Masters is the final Masters 1000 event of the year, running from October 28 to November 3. Sinner’s withdrawal comes on the heels of another high-profile exit, as 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic also announced his withdrawal from the tournament. This leaves the competition wide open for other players to capitalize on the absence of two of the top contenders.

Jannik Sinner’s decision not only reflects his current health concerns but also adds to the intrigue surrounding the tournament as it progresses.
