Katie Boulter and Jack Draper Reach Quarter-Finals

Katie Boulter and Jack Draper continued their strong seasons by reaching the quarter-finals in their respective tournaments. In particular, Boulter advanced to her fourth WTA Tour quarter-final of the year with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over Japan’s Kyoka Okamura at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. Okamura ranked 271st and entering the main draw as a lucky loser, struggled to match Boulter’s powerful baseline game.

Currently ranked 33rd, Katie Boulter expressed confidence in her performance and highlighted her aim to finish the year strong. She noted that she has no ranking points to defend which gives her a “free swing” at the end of the season. Looking ahead, she will face Canadian wildcard Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion.

Meanwhile, Draper, aged 22 moved into the quarter-finals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna after defeating Italy’s Luciano Darderi 7-5, 6-1. Draper, who reached the US Open semi-finals earlier this year showcased a strong serving performance, winning all 21 points on his first serve in the opening set.

After returning from an abdominal injury that sidelined him for a month, Draper felt refreshed and sharp. He stated that he had managed his physical condition well throughout the season. Next, he will compete against Czech Tomas Machac.

Overall, both players aim to capitalize on their recent successes as they look to finish the 2024 season on a high note and solidify their standings in the world rankings.
