Katie Boulter delivered a stunning performance overcoming Leylah Fernandez in straight sets to help Britain advance to the semi-finals. Playing on a fast hard court that suited her aggressive style, Boulter dominated the first set as Fernandez’s service game collapsed under a flurry of double faults. Building on the confidence gained from her best-ever season, Boulter carried her momentum into the second set, racing to a 4-0 lead.
Although nerves briefly set in, the vocal British crowd rallied behind her, and Boulter sealed the win on her fourth match point sparking jubilant celebrations. “I really wanted to go out and take on the defending champions. I’m really pleased with myself,” said Boulter, who praised teammate Emma Raducanu for helping her play freely. Britain led by captain Anne Keothavong has raised expectations heading into the semi-finals, buoyed by their strong team dynamic and firepower.
Having reached the semi-finals in Glasgow last year, this time, Britain has more belief in their chances with Boulter and Raducanu both favored to win their singles matches. However, Slovakia, who have made it to the semi-finals for the first time since 2002 are no pushovers. They defeated the US and Australia in impressive fashion, with Viktoria Hruncakova and Rebecca Sramkova both securing notable wins.
If Britain beats Slovakia, their final opponents will either be Poland or Italy, both tough contenders. Poland boasts world number one Iga Swiatek while Italy is led by world number four Jasmine Paolini. Despite the challenges ahead, Katie Boulter remains confident: “We’ve always got a great chance. We’re just enjoying ourselves.”
