Nick Kyrgios: Abdominal Strain ‘Not Too Serious’

Nick Kyrgios has reassured fans that his abdominal strain which forced him to withdraw from an exhibition match, is “not too serious.” The 29-year-old, who had scheduled to play in an exhibition alongside Novak Djokovic revealed on Instagram that an ultrasound showed he had suffered a grade one strain. Despite the setback, Kyrgios remains optimistic about his chances of being fit for the upcoming Australian Open. Kyrgios returned to singles action last week at the Brisbane International after an 18-month hiatus.

However, following his first-round defeat, he described feeling “throbbing” pain. Speaking to Australia’s 7News, Kyrgios emphasized that he “knows his body” and will take all necessary precautions to ensure he’s ready for the first Grand Slam of the year, which begins on Sunday in Melbourne. “I’ve still got five days up my sleeve,” Kyrgios said. “I’m probably not going to serve for the next couple of days, but I’ll do everything I can.”

The Australian star, aiming to make a full recovery after undergoing knee and wrist surgeries, made his competitive comeback in doubles at the Brisbane International alongside Djokovic. However, after his singles loss to Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Nick Kyrgios expressed concern about his wrist holding up in Melbourne, admitting he might need “a miracle” to play at his best. Despite the physical setbacks, Kyrgios remains determined to manage his injuries and give himself the best chance to compete at the Australian Open.
