Novak Djokovic, now 37 is aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title which would make him the most successful player in tennis history. Despite a setback in 2023 where he failed to win a major for the first time since 2017, Djokovic remains a strong contender with his sights set on an 11th Australian Open title this year. Six-time Grand Slam champion Stefan Edberg believes that Djokovic’s vast experience makes him a serious favorite especially at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

However, Djokovic’s age is a significant factor. He is already six months older than Ken Rosewall, who remains the oldest Grand Slam winner in the Open Era at 37. While this might discourage some, Edberg points out that recent years have seen older players like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, win major titles in their mid-30s. Djokovic is still highly fit and his pursuit of records continues to drive him forward.

In 2024, Djokovic also welcomed former rival Andy Murray as his coach, believing Murray’s recent experience on tour could provide fresh insights and motivation. This new partnership could fuel Djokovic’s ambitions as he chases further titles. Despite the fierce competition from younger players like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic’s determination, fitness and tactical experience position him as a genuine threat in future tournaments.

Edberg believes that Novak Djokovic, like many older players has learned how to manage his schedule to avoid burnout, giving him a chance to keep challenging for the sport’s top prizes. As Djokovic targets more history, his journey proves that age may not be an obstacle to success in modern tennis.
