Novak Djokovic Credits Andy Murray for "Fresh Look"

Novak Djokovic has credited Andy Murray with “bringing a fresh look” to his game as they prepare to work together for the first time. Djokovic, the 24-time major champion will begin his 2025 season at the Brisbane International against Australian Rinky Hijikata. Although Murray, who retired in August will not join Djokovic in Brisbane, the pair will unite before the Australian Open, starting on January 12.

Djokovic praised Murray for offering unique insights into his game, pointing to their long rivalry and Murray’s experience facing top players. “He knows the pros and cons of my game,” Djokovic said, expressing excitement about the fresh perspective Murray brings. Djokovic also looks forward to benefiting from Murray’s champion mentality both on and off the court.

They will work together through the Australian Open, and Djokovic will decide on a longer-term partnership afterward. Djokovic aims for his 100th ATP singles title in Brisbane and his 11th Australian Open title which would set a new record for most Grand Slam titles. After a rare 2024 season without a major title, Djokovic plans a busier schedule in 2025 to improve his ranking which currently sits at number seven.

In addition to his singles campaign, Djokovic will partner with Nick Kyrgios in the men’s doubles at Brisbane. Novak Djokovic also voiced concerns about how tennis handles doping cases, particularly involving Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. He criticized the inconsistency and lack of transparency, noting that players feel frustrated with how these cases have been managed. Djokovic emphasized the need for a fair and consistent approach to doping cases within the sport.
