Sabalenka Eyes Continued Grand Slam Domination

Sabalenka aims to extend her undefeated streak in Grand Slams in 2024, with her opponent in the French Open quarter-final, Mirra Andreeva, acknowledging that the Belarusian operates at a different level. Having clinched victory at the Australian Open earlier this year, the 26-year-old Aryna Sabalenka boasts an impressive 11-0 record in Grand Slams this year. She has not dropped a single set in any of her 11 matches. At Roland Garros, she has conceded only 18 games across four matches, advancing to the quarter-finals with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win over Emma Navarro.

Currently ranked second in the world, Sabalenka has reached the semi-finals or better in her last six Grand Slam appearances, including winning the past two Australian Opens. Reflecting on her success, she expresses her delight at maintaining consistency in Grand Slam tournaments, which serves as motivation to continue pushing herself to new limits.  Meanwhile, her opponent, 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva, recently secured her first Slam quarter-final berth after defeating Varvara Gracheva with a 7-5, 6-2 victory, marking another milestone in her rapidly progressing career.

Despite acknowledging Sabalenka’s prowess, Andreeva remains optimistic about her chances and is determined to make necessary adjustments to her game plan with the guidance of her coach. The French Open quarter-finals also feature other notable matchups, including top seed Iga Swiatek facing American third seed Coco Gauff in the women’s singles, and a quarter-final clash between Kazakh fourth seed Elena Rybakina and Italian 12th seed Jasmine Paolini.
