Spanish third seed Carlos Alcaraz delivered a strong performance to defeat Felix Auger-Aliassime and advance to the quarter-finals of the French Open. Alcaraz, aged 21, secured a comfortable 6-3 6-3 6-1 victory over the Canadian 21st seed on a rare rain-free day in Paris. He will now face Greek ninth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the next round. Reflecting on his win, Alcaraz (Spanish third seed) expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “I’m really happy with the performance today, I think I played at a real high level of tennis. I’m happy with my serve, my shots, and my movement on the court.”
In another match, Tsitsipas battled past Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi after coming from behind to secure a 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 6-2 victory. Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner also progressed to the quarter-finals after overcoming Corentin Moutet in a tough encounter, winning 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-1. Sinner will now face Grigor Dimitrov in the next round. Alcaraz, who is aiming for his first French Open title, overcame challenges posed by a forearm injury to make a strong start in the tournament.
Despite initial struggles, he displayed confidence and resilience in his matches, gradually improving his form. Against Auger-Aliassime, Alcaraz delivered a commanding performance, showcasing his skills and determination on the court. Meanwhile, Tsitsipas fought hard to secure victory against Arnaldi showing courage and determination in crucial moments of the match. Sinner also faced tough opposition in Moutet but managed to turn the tide in his favor with a strong comeback.
With the competition heating up, Alcaraz, Tsitsipas, Sinner and Dimitrov will be looking to continue their impressive form as they progress further in the tournament.
