The BBC Young Sports Personality Nominees Revealed
The BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award shortlist includes skateboarder Sky Brown, Para-swimmer William Ellard and darts player Luke Littler. A panel selected the top three from a longlist of ten outstanding young athletes. The winner will be revealed live during the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show on Tuesday, December 17, broadcast at 19:00 GMT on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Sky Brown, 16, earned Olympic bronze in skateboarding at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games overcoming injuries like a dislocated shoulder and torn knee ligament. She expressed excitement about skateboarding’s progression ahead of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
William Ellard, 18, debuted spectacularly at the Paris 2024 Paralympics winning three medals including two golds. He set a world record in the S14 200m freestyle and took silver in the 100m butterfly. Ellard also excelled at the European Championships securing four medals including two golds.
Luke Littler, 17, gained fame in early 2024 when he became the youngest player to reach the World Darts Championship final at just 16 years old. Though he finished as runner-up, Littler’s impressive year continued with 10 senior PDC titles and a top-four world ranking, earning over £1m in prize money.
The judging panel included athletes like Sammi Kinghorn and Keiran Reilly along with representatives from the BBC, Blue Peter and Youth Sport Trust. Other athletes on the longlist included Mia Brookes (snowboarding), Cat Ferguson (cycling) and Phoebe Gill (athletics) among others.
